StyleBakeryMom - stylish finds for moms & little ones: Expectant Moms Archives

We’ve said it before and we’ll say it again: sometimes moms have to modify their participation in trends slightly. A case in point was the arm party that was all the rage during the first half of the year. I tried the look exactly two times only to find it took too long to put them all on and that my child wouldn’t stop grabbing at them. So for moms like me, rejoice because the mash-up of friendship bracelets and bangles is giving way to a bigger, bolder look for fall by way of the metallic cuff. Polished or brushed, hammered or etched, hinged or open, you really can’t go wrong with any cuff style as long as it’s eye-catching. Plus if you choose a metal-plated piece, the price-point is actually amazingly low. You’ll look like the superwoman you are without wasting precious time in the morning loading your arm up with accessories.

From burgundy to cranberry, you can always count on deep, rich red tones to show up in force each fall. While this season is no different, fall 2012’s red is a little special…a little novel. Oxblood—a warm, complex red with hints of brown—tends to look absolutely fabulous on every skin tone. It’s also one of the most versatile reds in the spectrum. Worn with chocolate brown, it looks warm and autumnal. Pair it with black and you create a look that is striking and dramatic whether casual or dressy. And while it’s trendy this season, it’s not a color that will ever go out of style, which means it’s okay to splurge on a piece that you really love. By all means, wear your reds from past seasons, but make sure you pick up something in oxblood this fall.

A few months ago we went on a big trip and it was almost impossible to bathe our infant in the hotel because the bathtub was so big and high that we couldn’t hold her up unless we got into the tub with her. It was a disaster. Now the inventors of the original Puj Tub have come out with the Puj Flyte which is the same tub that we love but in a more compact, travel-friendly size. The compact shape makes it easy to slip into a suitcase and it still cradles your baby to be able to bathe in a bathroom sink. The Puj Flyte is also made of mildew-resistant material allowing it to dry in seconds and it folds completely flat. Whether you travel or not, this is definitely a must-have for any newborn baby.

I love reading books to my baby. However, she loves chewing on them more than reading them these days. As I searched for the perfect book to read her, I found these fantastic cloth books from Jellycat that are the best of both worlds. Playful, bright and fun the Jellycat cloth books tell a cute story while also providing just what she wants to put in her mouth - cloth tags without disintegrating in her mouth like a regular paper or board book. Completely gender neutral, the cloth books make a great baby gift for any new baby and mom looking to bond over reading…and teething!

When it’s as hot as this record-breaking summer has been, staying cool trumps high fashion. Tank tops, cutoffs, flip-flops…as long as you’re covered and it’s cool, they all become fair game. As we begin the slow slide toward back-to-school, however, you may begin finding yourself invited to events (orientations, meetings) where your look needs to be more pulled together despite the heat. For times like these, seersucker is your friend. A classic lightweight, summery fabric, seersucker looks chic even with a wrinkle or two. Wear it to the office or out to an amusement park. Whatever form—shorts, skirt, blazer—every seersucker piece will be as stylish next year as it is during this heatwave.
